Enquanto a LG e Samsung adotam as duas plataformas simples o Android cresce no Mercado.

Children, Incorporated Partners with Rotarians to Launch Native Youth Entrepreneurship Initiative in Arizona

Richmond, Virginia (PRWEB) March 20, 2009 — Children, Incorporated (http://www.childrenincorporated.org/) and Rotarians (http://www.altadenarotary.com) from Altadena, California are launching the Native Youth Entrepreneurship Initiative, teaching Navajo youth of Coconino County, Arizona how to escape economic instability and create new opportunities through entrepreneurship. One hundred Navajo teenagers between the ages of 13 and 18 will benefit from a series of one-to-two week training sessions geared towards getting more Native Americans in Arizona interested in building their businesses. The primary goal is the development of new Native-led businesses that create jobs for other members of the community.

“We’re thrilled to have the support of Rotary and other civic organizations in Northern Arizona for such a worthwhile project,” said Liz Sweeney, Director of Marketing & Donor Development for Children, Incorporated. “A special thanks goes to C. Ray Carlson, Chair of Youth Entrepreneurship Education of Rotary District 5300 who is helping to teach Navajo youth how to create their own businesses through training and business plan development exercises.”

Part of the initiative includes ongoing technical support during and after the training sessions through local Navajo business owners and business development agencies in an effort to offer encouragement for the new businesses to survive. Through successful business efforts, the program will help Native youth community leaders and business owners while sharing their Native heritage through increased economic ties within their community.

The partnership caught the attention of entrepreneurial expert Jennifer Villalobos and she will be joining the initiative to lead sessions. Villalobos was named “Youth Entrepreneur of the Year 2004″ by the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development. The training sessions will focus intensely around the creation and development of individual and family business plans, mentorship support and life-skills education.

Navajo youth in Page, Arizona see few opportunities to succeed with the tribe facing a staggering unemployment rate of 56%. Only 1.7% of privately owned businesses in Arizona are owned by Native entrepreneurs, which has led to a lack of mentorship and support for more home grown Native businesses. The nation-wide unemployment rate for American Indian youth is 15% and the Navajo youth of Page represent the single largest subset of the population at 16.5%.

Faced with very limited economic opportunities and wide-spread alcohol abuse, Native American youth suffer form a suicide rate four to five times higher than the national average. These negative influencing factors often lead to feelings of hopelessness and diminished images of self-worth. Limited opportunities to earn a decent income have created a systemic effect that can destroy individuals, debilitate families and cripple communities for several generations.

This initiative represents the continuing effort of Children, Incorporated to help Native American children find opportunities for improved lives. Children, Incorporated works with public and Native schools and affiliated community partners to implement programs designed to help these children in need. Children, Incorporated’s American Indian Division supports more than 1,617 Native children and young adults throughout Arizona, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah and New Mexico.

For additional information about the Native Youth Entrepreneurship Initiative, or to learn about sponsoring a child in need, contact Children, Incorporated Director of Marketing and Donor Development Liz Sweeney at 800.538.5381 or visit www.ChildrenIncorporated.org.

The Boom in Online Education & Teaching Jobs

Posted on junho 6, 2011 by miron
No comments

We’ve been living in economically trying times, but one sector has shown consistent growth: online education. When jobs are going right, left and center in other industries, education remains a growth area, with online education boosting the sector considerably. Jobs in online education, including online tutoring for school-age and adult learners, are growing even as opportunities shrink in other sectors.

It’s not hard to find the principal reasons for this demand for education. With many candidates vying for a reduced number of jobs, the applicant with the best qualifications is going to have a clear edge over their less well-qualified peers. Many people who have lost their jobs have returned to education, either to up skill themselves or boost their CVs or, in some cases, to retrain in other career fields. The role of online education in these trends is clear.

Although distance education has been around a long time, receiving study materials by post, and even working with interactive materials on CD and DVD, has always had its drawbacks. Online education has a variety of huge advantages.

• Instant access for online learners • Interactive learning with online tutors and internet resources • Affordable online tuition due to reduced overheads incurred in online education • Access to online education, no matter where learners or online tutors live. • Access to online tutors at times convenient to all concerned.

Studies have also shown that online education is effective. Some studies suggest that blended education (a mixture of traditional classroom-based teaching and online learning) is more effective than other teaching methods.

The growth of online education has had a significant impact on the job market. That impact has been felt not only in conventional education (K-12 and college) but more widely. Online teaching jobs have been created in a range of areas, including adult education and in the leisure industry. Online teaching jobs have sprung up in subjects as diverse as hobby subjects, foreign language learning and even sports tuition.

The availability of new technologies (including video calling, screen sharing and internet whiteboards, webinars and so on) in the interactive Web 2.0 platform has also created opportunities for teachers, as well as learners. Although online teaching jobs for educators in schools and colleges have mushroomed, the internet has encouraged many people to share their knowledge with others. Not all online learning is qualification-oriented and people with a passion for a subject are able to share their skill and knowledge with others as never before. Some embrace online teaching jobs as a civic or charitable duty, rather than as a career path, though online education today offers new ways for educators to carve out careers in their chosen subject or subjects. Online teaching jobs offer flexible working hours for teachers (including work-at-home mums) that have not conventionally been available. Private tuition, once the province of those able to afford it, is now within the reach of almost anyone with a broadband internet connection.

The expansion of online education and online teaching jobs is in its infancy. As more and more people across the planet get connected to the internet, new opportunities and ways of spreading knowledge are likely to emerge. In addition, people who have embraced existing opportunities and taken up online teaching jobs find it a satisfying, fulfilling and exciting avenue in the world of education. It can only lead to a world in which education is within the reach of anyone in need of tuition or help.

Tutoring Services LLC. offers opportunity of online teaching jobs for tutors, free registration for teachers & tutors, tutoring jobs and home tutoring services. It helps students to find a tutor, online tutoring help, homework help, online education and learning benefits to students of schools, colleges & universities.

California Council for the Social Studies Workshops Introduce Lessons, Instructional Strategies for Teaching Current Economic Events

Posted on março 3, 2009 by miron

New York (PRWEB) March 3, 2009 — Will the Three Little Pigs get swept up in the foreclosure crisis? As if defending their homes against the Big Bad Wolf wasn’t tough enough, now they have to battle a credit crunch?

To help California K-12 teachers cover the current economic crisis in their classrooms, the Council for Economic Education (formerly known as the National Council on Economic Education) is conducting a series of teacher workshops at the California Council for the Social Studies (www.ccss.org, CCSS) Conference at the Ontario Convention Center on Friday, March 6th and Sunday, March 8th.

During the workshops, California teachers will explore print, CD, DVD and web-based lesson plans designed to help them infuse much-needed basic economic and personal finance concepts into their social studies curriculum. Teachers will:

* discover how to tie economic concepts to current events

* find ready-to-use lesson plans that enhance their K-12 economics and personal finance curriculum

* explore strategies and techniques that help them teach economics with confidence

“Today’s economy is undergoing unprecedented changes, from bank bailouts to stimulus packages to globalization, but how is a time-starved teacher supposed to cover it all?” asks Troy D. White, the Council for Economic Education’s Director of Sales and Marketing. “These workshops are a rescue package for teachers: affordable, standards-based lesson plans; time-saving curriculum planning resources; and interactive Web sites that help students hone their 21st Century learning skills. Best of all, these workshops help teachers put the current economic crisis in a context any student can understand.”

For the Little Ones: Teaching Economics in Elementary School

Is it too early to teach economics to elementary school students? Not if Mr. Bill Cooper, a retired social studies teacher from Mira Costa High School, has his way. His workshop, Using Play Dough (http://store.councilforeconed.org/playdougheconomics.html) and the Three Little Pigs to Teach Elementary Economics (http://store.councilforeconed.org/teaching-econ-using-childrens-lit.html), will explore how to combine two ever-popular activities — fairy tales and sticky sculpting clay — to form the ultimate hands-on economics curriculum.

First, teachers discover how Play Dough can transform mundane concepts like opportunity cost, money and bartering into exciting clay creations. Second, teachers analyze how the Three Little Pigs learned the value of natural resources and the meaning of scarcity as they each built their homes. This combination of children’s literature and sculpting clay gives teachers an array of resources that make introducing economics to young students both fun and engaging.

Understanding — and Teaching — Current Economic Events: Teaching Economics in High School

Would you like to Transform Your High School Economics Class into a Capstone Course? With Mr. Cooper at their side, California teachers discover how to use interactive lesson plans to teach hot-button topics like the economic stimulus package. Mr. Cooper will examine four areas of the US economy that play a major role in economic events and decisions.

Economics in US History: Teaching Economics in Middle and High School

During the workshop Understanding Economics in US History (http://store.councilforeconed.org/focus-ushistory.html), Mrs. Kathy Miles, the Council for Economic Education’s Teacher Support Specialist, asks a simple question: “Would you sell yourself into indentured servitude?” The answer will surprise you. Mrs. Miles will explore how economic concepts like choices and benefits drove many into indentured servitude for the hope of a better life in a new, far-flung country.

Teachers will also analyze how other historical economic events, like the Great Depression, can be applied to today’s current economic crisis. Using mystery-based lesson plans and interactive teaching strategies, teachers will develop a solid understanding of must-know concepts like demand, income, money and opportunity cost that will enhance any U.S. history course.

Winning in the Global Economy: Teaching Economics in Middle and High School

No conference is complete without a dose of global economics. In the workshop Competing in a Global Economy: Good Theater vs. Bad Theater, Mr. Cooper will use timely lesson plans to demonstrate how globalization and the new economic stimulus package will impact the US economy. Teachers explore fundamental principles like free trade, comparative advantage and economic development. As an added bonus, teachers will also explore ethical dilemmas using economic reasoning as a tool.

Exhibit Hall

For teachers interested in infusing more economics and personal finance into their curriculum, the Council for Economic Education will preview its latest technology- and print-based materials at booth 308. Booth attendees will also have the opportunity to register to win an iPod shuffle.

Northcentral University Introduces Project Management Program in 100% Online Format

Prescott Valley AZ (PRWEB) October 21, 2008 — Northcentral University (www.ncu.edu), an accredited online university and innovator in 100% online higher education, has introduced a Project Management program. Offered 100% online at the master’s and doctoral degree levels in the University’s School of Business and Technology Management (http://www.ncu.edu/academics/business.aspx), the Project Management program will also be available to master’s degree holders as a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (http://www.ncu.edu/academics/cags/cags.aspx) (CAGS).

“At Northcentral University, practicing project professionals can continue their careers as they acquire advanced online higher education, allowing them to advance in their chosen fields through our no residency, 100% accredited online university model,” commented Dr. Clinton Gardner, Northcentral University president.

The online higher education program was developed in direct response to business professionals seeking career-specific advanced education. Business schools nationwide have developed programs in response to this growing professional demand, though 100% online project management programs at the graduate level are rare. As with a number of other professions well-served by NCU, the accredited online university’s 100% no-residency, asynchronous learning model is always accessible to working professionals whose jobs, family, and community involvement limit their ability to attend school.

With the addition of the Project Management program, NCU now offers 17 different specializations through its MBA curriculum. Some of the courses included in the new specialization are Project Procurement Management, Project Monitoring and Control, Earned Value Project Management, and Risk Management.

Northcentral University courses start monthly and the Project Management program (http://pm6000.ncu.edu) is now available for enrollment.
